Speculative Kitchens: A Fiction Workshop – Oct 9

Posted by Free Library of Philadelphia on September 28, 2021

Empty store shelves, emotional eating, shifts in food sourcing, and rediscovery of home kitchens…the pandemic created situations that have altered our relationship with food in some thought-provoking ways. Many of these experiences show the limitations, challenges, and quirks of our current systems, raising the question: can we do better for ourselves in the future?

Join the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Culinary Literacy Center and Hungry Education in this important conversation on the west lawn of the Parkway Central Library, by the entrance to the Children’s Department. In an outdoor, speculative fiction workshop, we will transform our collective experiences, stories, past and future kitchen artifacts, and art supplies into visions of a better food future.

This program is free and open to all adults and teens. In accordance with guidelines set by the city of Philadelphia, we ask that all participants, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks for this event.

Date and Time: Saturday, October 9, 1:00-3:00 PM; rain date: October 23, 2021

Pre-registration is required. Event details and RSVP.
