Posted by Service Year Alliance on June 22, 2021

Join Service Year Alliance and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation on August 3rd – 5th for a virtual convening to learn about the stories, strategies, and tactics leveraged by community partners to utilize national service as a way to address local and community needs. The event will feature the experiences, lessons learned, and resounding successes demonstrated by the Flint National Service Accelerator and other communities around the potential of national service for local impact. Whether you are just starting this work or have been doing it for years, this event will inspire you and offer actionable ideas and solutions to take back to your community.

About the Flint National Service Accelerator

In Flint, MI community partners came together to bring a vision to life of leveraging national service to address local needs. In 2011, leaders from the Mott Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint established the Flint National Service Accelerator, an initiative to expand national service and meet community needs. In 2014, Flint became a demonstration site with the goal of expanding the number of national service corps members in Flint to 250 annually by 2019 — a tenfold increase from the baseline — and engaging corps members in implementing strategies from the “Imagine Flint” Master Plan. Since then, the community has surpassed its goals: in the 2019-2020 service term, over 350 AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Senior members supported a community-wide collaborative to address needs such as education, the ongoing water crisis, and now the pandemic.
