Johnson & Johnson Innovation Invites Applications for Decoding Disparities QuickFire Challenge
Johnson & Johnson Innovation, in collaboration with Janssen Scientific Affairs, has launched the Decoding Disparities QuickFire Challenge.
According to Johnson & Johnson Innovation, many people in the United States face systemic health obstacles due to conditions where they are born, live, or work, and those conditions in turn impact the broader population and drive unnecessary costs. Indeed, a disproportionate burden of disease and illness affects racial and ethnic minority populations and the rural and urban poor.
To address these issues, the company invites U.S.-based innovators — including entrepreneurs, health system experts, technologists, researchers, academia, and students — to submit data-driven methodologies or technologies aimed at better detecting, understanding, or reducing the root causes of health inequities and informing the crucial next steps needed to take toward achieving equity. Innovator(s) will receive funding in increments of $50,000, $100,000 or $200,000 as well as access to the global Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS network and mentorship from experts at the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies.
Priority focus areas include mental health, inflammatory bowel disease, and cardiovascular disease. Proposals should include considerations of the following: data integration to identify gaps within communities of color that are amenable to change and actionable insights to inform potential targeted interventions and resource development; and barriers to equitable access to health care across the patient journey including the patient/physician level and clinical encounter (e.g., seeking care, getting diagnosed, treatment decision making, physician/patient relationship, and appropriate support to enable patients to access, fulfill, and adhere to treatment to maximize benefits and minimize risks.
See the Johnson & Johnson Innovation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
Deadline: June 25, 2021
