Teachers Institute of Philadelphia Fall Program – May 18
Posted by The Teachers Institute of Philadelphia on May 4, 2021
Applications are now available for the Teachers Institute of Philadelphia (TIP) fall 2021 Curriculum Laboratory. Our content-based professional development programs have been shown in a recent study to increase teacher retention rates, particularly among Black and Latinx teachers. TIP has been running since 2006 as a partnership between the School District and the University of Pennsylvania, and is free to participants.
We offer seminars, taught by Penn and Temple professors, that enable teachers to introduce new content in their classrooms while covering District-mandated academic standards. The Curriculum Laboratory is a streamlined version of our traditional seminar program, providing a flexible schedule and enabling the teacher to tailor the content to their needs. The seminars cover topics that are relevant to students’ lives.
Offerings this fall are:
Topics in Environmental Health
Marilyn Howarth, Department of Emergency Medicine and Pharmacology
Wednesdays, 4:30-6:30pm
How Critical Elements Make Up our Modern World
Eric Schelter, Chemistry Department
Mondays, 4:30-6:30pm
Southwest Native American Art & Culture
Lucy Fowler Williams, Penn Museum
Wednesdays, 4:30-6:30pm
TIP will conduct an open house with the fall 2021 seminar leaders on Tuesday, May 18th at 4:30 pm. Deadline for applying is June 11.
More information about the seminars is on the Curriculum Laboratory page of our website; those who want to enroll should visit Apply to TIP.
