Artura is Moving to the Beta Phase in 2021

Artura.org, your go-to resource for culturally diverse contemporary art is the nation’s first free online database of culturally diverse artwork and artists, and an open educational resource for researchers, curators, educators, and students.

Artura.org is the first project launched by the virtual Institute for Inclusion Diversity and Equity in Education and the Arts (IIDEEA) and sponsored by Brandywine Workshop and Archives (BWA). IIDEEA is a National Advisory group of almost 24 university professors, museum professionals, and educators, many of whom represent the 16 Satellite Collections that have been established nationally by BWA, including university museums, art museums, and heritage centers.

During the Alpha Phase of its development (March–December 2020), Artura has provided a digital image library and archival resource that is free to the public and presents the legacy of BWA achievements and those of the more the 450 diverse visiting artists it has worked with since its inception in 1975. The goal is to be more than a database. Artura.org will be adding several features in its Beta Phase starting in mid-January 2021 that promote the artists (many of whom are unknown to art historians and curators), assist researchers, offer professional development for teachers to promote cross-cultural instruction and learning, and continue to rely upon authentic content provided directly by the artists through archival and new content, and related media productions (video interviews, webinars).

The IIDEEA is building a digital space for opening-up conversations, exploring research, and innovative, collaborative programming.
