Policy Intern/People’s Emergency Center
People’s Emergency Center (PEC) nurtures families, strengthens neighborhoods, and drives change. We are committed to increasing equity and opportunity throughout our entire community. We provide comprehensive supportive services to homeless women and their children, revitalize our West Philadelphia neighborhood, and advocate for social justice.
Duties:
Support PEC’s Vice President of Policy with the following: researching policy issues that affect homeless families; writing policy briefs and support letters about issues affecting homeless families; communicate PEC’s policy agenda to key local, regional & federal legislators, board members and the public at large; tracking changes in policies and in data relating to housing and homeless policy, employment, child care, health, and welfare reform.
Qualifications:
Current graduate student studying public policy, social work, or law;
Strong, clear written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to sift through a wide breath of information and produce a clear summary;
Creative problem solver;
Self-motivated, able to work independently on assigned tasks.
The ideal candidate will be able to work 16 hours a week for the much of the school year. This is an unpaid internship.
