Impact Director, City Year Philadelphia

Reporting to the Senior Director, Impact Delivery, the Impact Director (ID) is responsible for achieving outcomes of the impact department by managing daily programmatic operations. In partnership with two fellow IDs, the Impact Director supervises a team of Impact Managers, who directly support AmeriCorps members in achieving impact goals while experiencing a rewarding year of service. Specifically, the ID ensures that the right conditions and resources are in place for AmeriCorps members to deliver Tier 2 interventions that support students in attendance, math, literacy, and social emotional learning, as well as Tier 1 supports such as after-school programming and academic classroom support. As part of the Impact Leadership Team, the ID collaborates with other directors, including AmeriCorps Member Experience Director, Instructional Director, and Learning & Development Director to oversee and foster opportunities for AmeriCorps members’ development, to ensure strong service impact in each cohort of schools, and to coach Impact Managers in achieving all site, team, and school-related goals. Additionally, the Impact Director will partner with the Sr. Director of Impact Delivery and the Managing Director of Impact to drive strategy that promotes the long-term sustainability of the site, to foster strategic relationships at the school, district and community level, and to serve on the Site’s Instructional Leadership Team.
What You’ll Do:
Impact Manager Supervision
- Develop, manage, and coach a team of 5-7 Impact Managers through daily contact, school visits, weekly check-ins, goal-setting and planning, performance reviews, and professional development opportunities
- Provide guidance on meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual Impact goals and administrative deadlines
- Facilitate sharing of best practices across teams
- Support Impact Managers in managing AmeriCorps members and in ensuring compliance with all AmeriCorps standards and policies
- Build a collaborative team among Impact Managers and school team portfolio through “village meetings” and initiatives
Service Impact & Evaluation
- Track, assess, and create action plans with Impact Managers on data-informed deliverables, school team progress, and general service impact
- Work with Impact Managers to coach AmeriCorps members on and ensure the quality of their daily service
- Regularly observe classroom and after-school programming
- Collaborate with Impact Analytics staff to ensure timely entry of all data, address inaccuracies, and track task completion
- Work with the Instructional Coaches to regularly observe and provide feedback around classroom and out-of-school activities; partner with Instructional Coaches and Impact Managers to identify strategies for AmeriCorps member coaching and development
- Ensure high safety standards for all in-school, after-school, and out-of-school activities where City Year is the lead partner, or where City Year is working in partnership with the schools, district, or other community partners
Relationship Management
- Directly manage all school partner relationships within the school portfolio, including implementing new partnerships and renewing agreements
- Support Impact Managers in building strong relationships with school site stakeholders; serve as supervisory contact with principals and school liaisons
- In partnership with the Senior Director of Impact Delivery, identify barriers to service implementation at the school and district levels, and support in brainstorming solutions while identifying opportunities to use promising practices
- Support and advance relationships with Network Assistant Superintendents to advance impact outcomes and remove barriers at the school and district levels
- Intervene during any City Year Philadelphia and/or school crises
- Annually recommit all existing City Year Philadelphia school partners who meet Conditions for
- Success thresholds and secure additional City Year partners (as appropriate)
AmeriCorps Member Management, Training, and Development
- Maintain site’s adherence to standards of conduct and national programmatic baselines
- Partner with AmeriCorps Member Experience Director to ensure execution of and compliance with all AmeriCorps and City Year requirements, policies and audits
- Collaborate with the Impact Leadership Team to establish a training vision and execution plan, providing support for AmeriCorps member trainings as needed
- Communicate with Impact Managers regarding AmeriCorps member development needs
- Coach Impact Managers and AmeriCorps members through team management, accountability, and standards issues, including disciplinary actions
Organizational Initiatives & Site Support
- Engage in structured discussion and training on diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity aimed at developing stronger cultural competency, both individually and collectively as a site
- Support the planning and execution of strategic initiatives that are critical to the success of the Impact Department and/or site
- Collaborate with site directors and other leaders on the ongoing operations of the organization and all departments’ goals
- Participate as a member of the Site Leadership Team, the Department Director Team and Impact Leadership Team, providing strategic insight into site priorities
- Participate as a member of the City Year national network’s Program and Service Team, managing selected network initiatives as needed, including creating baseline trainings, collateral, and tools
- Partner with City Year Philadelphia’s departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to, the AmeriCorps member interview process, stakeholder engagement, event and service day participation, and cross-departmental committees
- Attend conferences as needed throughout the year
