New Research: Philanthropy’s Expanding Role in the Corporation

In August 2019, the Business Roundtable redefined corporate purpose to benefit employees, customers, suppliers, and communities, in addition to shareholders. CEOs from 181 major corporations signed off on it, but how far along was that thinking among the rest of the corporate world? New research shows a more prevalent disposition among executives, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic.

The surveyed focused on three key aspects of corporate philanthropy:

  1. Executive awareness of the derived business benefits
  2. The role of employees in operating programs
  3. Increased receptiveness to technology and services
