Virtual Town Hall: The Impact of Covid-19 on Black and Brown Women – Aug 19

The COVID-19 crisis hit communities of color and immigrants in Philadelphia in complex and fatal ways, particularly Black and Brown women who are often impacted by being the essential workers in healthcare, childcare, education and domestic work. Yet they remain invisible. According to a report recently released by Community Change, race and gender inequality makes COVID 19 more dangerous for Black and Brown women.
This virtual Town Hall, put in in conjunction with the Philadelphia Commission for Women, AARP, and the Philadelphia Office of Immigrant Affairs, is a “listening” session. It is an opportunity for community leaders and policy makers to hear how COVID-19 has impacted Philadelphia’s Black and Brown women from their lived experiences, and to hear their recommendations for the policy changes they need to improve their lives and the lives of their families. These are the women who work everyday to keep us safe, often with long hours and low wages.
The event will feature speakers from Gender Justice Fund grantees One PA, ROC Pennsylvania, and PA Domestic Workers Alliance.
