engage NOW conference with the Dalai Lama

The University of Calgary presents: *engage NOW*

A two-day conference of profound relevance to all educators. September 30 – October 1, 2009

Inspired by His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama’s visit to Calgary, *engage NOW *draws on compassion, connectedness and collaboration to explore the potential of campus-community partnerships to promote positive social change, community development and enhanced student learning.

This conference is especially relevant to those working in post-secondary education in Canada. Workshops and concurrent sessions provide examples of service-learning and experiential learning projects at the local and global levels. *engage NOW* also includes two special sessions on Service-Learning and Service-Learning course design by Edward Zlotkowski of the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE), two sessions on Service-Learning in K-12 with Susan Abravanel of Youth Service America and two feature sessions on Community-Based Research by Sarah Flicker of York University.

*engage NOW* features keynote addresses by F.W. de Klerk, the authors of Getting to Maybe (Brenda Zimmerman, Frances Westley and Michael Quinn Patton), Jan Egeland, as well as two special opportunities to hear His Holiness the Dalai Lama speak of the importance of compassion and community.
