First Year Seminar on Democratic and Voter Engagement
Posted by Rock the Vote on April 14, 2020
On the Higher Education-Student Voter Engagement (HE-SVE) Forum a posting requested resources for creating some lesson plans for a first year seminar course on democratic and voter engagement.
A reply suggested to check out the Democracy Class coalition’s resources at Rock the Vote. They have free one-period lesson plans on the history and importance of voting which pre-registers and registers students to vote; voting rights; importance of local elections; and civics action curriculum on any issue impacting the community. If folks are looking for teaching resources to push now, the coalition also offers a census lesson plan that includes an explainer video, which you can also use on its own. Additionally, our Medium account has several short explainers on various aspects of government and democracy. They will be publishing several more soon.
