On any given day 50 percent of our nation’s 9th grade students are contemplating dropping out of school. For example, U.S. Department of Education researchers indicate that the level of mathematics proficiency in calculus increases graduation rate potential by 80 percent and most schools are not offering advanced subjects.

Over the next ten years 10 million young adults will pursue their college dreams with inadequate preparation. Our country faces severe economic consequences if we cannot educate the future workforce.
According to the Betraying the College Dream Report, some of the common misconceptions that students have about college are the start of their problems:
•    Adhering to high school graduation requirements will prepare me for college (Not true)
•    Getting in to college is the most difficult part. (Graduating is the most challenging part)
•    It’s important to take easier classes in high school and earn better grades (Challenging courses help students to prepare)
•    Studying in the senior year of high school is not important (It’s very important)

Dr. Stephen Jones is a Philadelphia native who has 20 years of experience as an educator, presenter, and author. Dr. Jones earned a B.A. in Psychology from Widener University, M.ed from Howard University, M.B.A from Philadelphia University, and Ed.D from Widener University. Dr Jones has devoted his career to helping 1000 s of students from across the country. He has used an extensive part of his career at Philadelphia University, Drexel University, and Metropolitan Career Center to help students who have poor study habits.
