Announcing the 2020 Fighting Words Poetry Contest – May 15

How can poetry be an effective response to current events and under-reported stories? How can we use poetry to connect global issues to our local and personal contexts? Students are invited to explore these questions and make their voices heard in their entries to our third annual Fighting Words Poetry Contest. Deadline: May 15, 2020.
Looking for projects students can complete independently during distance learning? Click here for complete contest guidelines and a downloadable lesson and worksheet to guide students through the process of crafting their poems. We are also offering free, virtual poetry writing workshops, which students and teachers can join by simply clicking a link. Email us to schedule a workshop!
All K-12 students in the U.S. and internationally are eligible. Winning poets will receive cash prizes up to $100 and will be published on the Pulitzer Center website. You can find last year’s winners and finalist’s here!
