Outside the Wire: Marginalized Experiences in the Military, Jan 22

You are cordially invited to participate in the upcoming Writers House program, Outside the Wire: Speaking Out About Marginalized Experiences in the Military. This event will take place on Wednesday, January 22 at 7:00 PM in the Multipurpose Room of the Rutgers-Camden Campus Center, located at 326 Penn Street.

Outside the Wire is a continuation of a four-year discussion series pairing veteran speakers with scholars and journalists who study and write about vets’ experiences.  This year’s focus is on stories that may not always receive the attention they deserve: those of veterans of color, LGBTQ and women service members. Speakers include veterans Mike Miller and Nicky Castro, as well as Samuel Black, curator of the Heinz History Center, who has spoken and written extensively on the experiences of black veterans, and Helen Benedict, whose book The Lonely Soldier explores women’s experiences of sexual assault in the armed forces.
