The 1619 Project: Curricular Resources for Reframing U.S. History and Identity

The 1619 Project, inaugurated with a special issue of The New York Times Magazine, challenges us to reframe U.S. history by marking the year when the first enslaved Africans arrived on Virginia soil as our nation’s foundational date. The issue includes over 30 visual and written pieces from leading journalists, historians, photographers, poets, playwrights, authors, and artists.
To extend the rich conversation this issue ignites into the classroom and beyond, our curriculum provides reading guides, activities to engage students, a call for educator contributions, and much more. How will you connect to The 1619 Project?
