AmeriCorps Team Leader, Kutztown University

PHENND seeks three full-time AmeriCorps members to serve as Team Leaders and help support low-income first generation college students who are themselves enrolled as part-time AmeriCorps members. Team Leaders are an integral part of the Next Steps AmeriCorps program. For the 2019-2020 year, there will be three positions available: at Temple University, Cabrini University (Radnor), and Kutztown University (Berks County). [as of 8/20: the Cabrini and Temple positions are filled; still recruiting Kutztown)

The Next Steps AmeriCorps is designed as a college retention initiate for rising sophomores and juniors who are Pell-eligible graduates of high poverty school districts. The Next Steps AmeriCorps program engages college students in community service, mentoring, supportive workshops and leadership development. Participants known as Corps members, complete 300 hours of community service in the course of one year. Corps members are placed with community service placements and also mentor one incoming first-year student as part of their service. Team Leaders will be an integral part of the Next Steps AmeriCorps program and will be placed either at Cabrini University (Wolfington Center), Kutztown University (Enrollment Management & Student Affairs Division), or Temple University (Center for Community Partnerships).

Benefits & Compensation

Next Steps AmeriCorps Team Leaders commit to a full-time year of service (1700 hours) for a minimal living stipend of approximately $15,000 per year. Team Leaders are provided health coverage and loan forbearance for any current federal student loans. Upon completion of the full year, they also receive an AmeriCorps Education Award of $6095 that can be used to pay for future educational expenses and/or pay off federal student loans. SEPTA Transpass or mileage reimbursement for non-community travel provided. Team Leaders also receive professional development as a cohort, in addition to any site specific training.

Timeline

The program year began August 20th, but we are still recruiting for Kutztown University.  The ideal candidate will start as soon as possible.
