Report: Not Enough School Counselors in the U.S.

School counselors are vital resources to students as they progress through high school and eventually start making decisions regarding higher education. However, the national average ratio of school counselors to students is significantly higher than it should be, according to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
The association recommends a ratio of 250 students per school counselor.
However, the national average school-counselor-to-student ratio for all schools is 464 to 1, according to a recent report from ASCA, The Education Trust, and Reach Higher.
Across high schools, the ratio is 311 students per counselor. In all, 11 million high school students attend an institution without enough school counselors.
