Updated State Policy Toolkit for College Access and Success

NCAN Releases Updated State Policy Toolkit
NCAN has released the second version of its State Policy Toolkit. The updated Toolkit includes reports, legislation, and data from the past year, and features the advocacy efforts of several members.
Whether your organization is already advocating for policy change at the state level, is in the process of developing policy priorities, or somewhere in between, NCAN highly encourages its members to reference the Toolkit in these decision-making processes. By highlighting exemplar policy and programs and providing evidence that contextualizes issues affecting students, the goal of this resource is to augment the equally powerful stories of students, for a combination of these elements makes the most compelling case for policy change.
Each policy issue in the Toolkit is derived from NCAN’s Model State Policy Agenda and is categorized under affordability or talent development. Subcategories for affordability include need-based aid and funding strategies. Beneath talent development are preparation, access, and success.

The member advocacy features will both demonstrate impactful advocacy practices as well as show which members are currently working to advance student outcomes on certain issues included in the Agenda and Toolkit. Therefore, this resource can serve as the starting point of organizational advocacy efforts, offer additional options for issues on which groups can lend their voice in the policy arena, identify programs or resources that can help organizations serve students directly or indirectly, and help initiate meaningful partnerships.
