Call for Proposals: Pathways to Achieving Civic Engagement

North Carolina Campus Compact’s 2019 PACE (Pathways to Achieving Civic Engagement) Conference will be February 13, 2019 at UNC Greensboro. Proposals are sought for presentations that will inform or advance the scholarship and practice of civic and community engagement through research findings, innovative program design and partnership models, effective curriculum or co-curricular models, institutional capacity building and institutionalization, and successful community engagement practices. Proposals are due November 1.
Faculty, staff, students, and community partners are welcome to submit proposals and to attend. The 2019 PACE keynote speaker is John B. King Jr., president and CEO of The Education Trust, a national nonprofit organization that seeks to identify and close opportunity and achievement gaps, from preschool through college. King served in President Barack Obama’s cabinet as the 10th U.S. Secretary of Education. Learn more.

We are seeking proposals in 3 categories:
* Workshop (60 minutes)
Workshops provide a focused time for presenters to dive deeply into content in the following tracks:
1. Institutionalization of CE
2. Pedagogy
3. Research & Theory
4. Community Partnership Development & Sustainability.
* Mini-Session (20 minutes)
Mini-sessions offer brief but focused looks into curricular or co-curricular program models addressing one of the target topics:
1. Food Insecurity
2. Democratic & Political Engagement
3. Creating and Sustaining an Engaged Campus
4. Equity and Inclusion
5. Partnerships to Improve K-12 Education
6. Addressing Health Disparities
7. Empowering Students as Colleagues
8. Community College Engagement
* Community Conversation (60 minutes)
This format offers an opportunity to explore a topic of interest with colleagues from across all stakeholder groups. Community Conversation facilitators should plan sessions that include 10 minutes of context setting and 50 minutes of sharing and dialogue on the proposed topic or theme led by guiding questions.

Proposal notifications: December 15, 2018
Selection process: All submissions will be peer reviewed.
Please Note: Accepted presenters must register and pay the conference fee of $100/pp ($130/pp if not Campus Compact member) by January 25, 2019.
