USDA Summer Meals Program
Posted by Archdiocese of Philadelphia on May 7, 2018
Free meals for children offered during the summer months
Many children in our community do not have access to wholesome meals in the summer. Nutritional Development Services (NDS) of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is a sponsor of the USDA Summer Meals Program, which provides children with a daily nutritious lunch and breakfast or snack. NDS is able to provide these meals to children 18 years old and younger at no cost to many neighborhoods in the Philadelphia area and surrounding suburbs.
All meals follow the federal guidelines for nutrition, with lunch providing 1/3 of the children’s daily nutrition requirements. The meals provide a variety of foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables, protein, and milk.
The 2018 Summer Program will operate Monday, June 18 through Friday, August 24, with the option for sites to run for the entire period or a portion of it.
Summer meals sites are a great place for children to congregate for fun, learning, and a nourishing meal on a hot summer day.
To find out more on becoming a summer meals provider, please call NDS at 215-895-3470 option 1.
