Submit a session proposal for the 2019 Service Engagement Summit.
TALKING. LISTENING. TRANSFORMING
This year’s conference theme, “Listening. Speaking. Transforming.,” is part of a year-long look into the many forms of dialogue as a tool for crossing differences and improving lives in our communities.
Join us in Indianapolis for the 9th annual Service Engagement Summit, February 25-26, 2019. The Summit is our signature event and provides our members the opportunity to hear the brightest speakers, participate in the most thought-provoking and useful workshops, and create programming that will have a lasting impact on our society for years to come.
PROPOSALS
Indiana Campus Compact is seeking presentations that will inform or advance the study and practice of service-learning and community engagement in higher education. Preference will be given to proposals that include the use of dialogue in one of its many forms (sustained, reflective, generative, deliberative, etc.). Examples of appropriate subject matter could include, but are not limited to: innovation program design, effective modes of community-engaged learning curricula, collaborative policy development and integration, successful campus-community partnerships, or turning research into practice.
PRESENTATION FORMATS
• Deep-Dive Session – 2 hours or 3 hours, or full-day session (presented on Monday 2/25/19 only). Deep-dive sessions should provide professional development with clear deliverables and concrete “take-a-ways” for the attendees. Include an outline that indicates how you will utilize supplemental materials such as handouts and readings and include all active-learning strategies to be used. Indicate whether or not participants will be required to complete any pre-session work and, if so, include these materials with your proposal.
• Interactive Workshop – 50 minutes (presented on Monday 2/25/19 or Tuesday 2/26/19). Presenters should be prepared to offer dynamic workshops that share information and best practices while encouraging creative thought and discussion, followed by a structured set of facilitated activities for audience participation. Presentations should include explicit suggestions for transferring the skills, models, and ideas learned to attendees’ own institutions.
• Poster Presentation or Resource Exchange – 50 minutes (presented on Tuesday 2/26/19 only). Poster presentations and resource exchanges act as a showcase of scholarly work and program models in an informal setting. Attendees are free to move about the room to examine posters and resource exhibits, and talk individually to the presenters. During this 50-minute session, please be prepared to discuss your project / resources to interested attendees in order to facilitate networking and further learning. Presenters can choose to present as a poster or resource exchange. Please read the descriptions carefully and choose your format based on focus and purpose of the presentation.
Poster Presentation: Posters should use data, text, images, and figures to describe the research or project. This format is best suited for reporting specific results of a research study or presenting information on service-learning, clinical or other community-based practices .
Resource Exchange: This informal format is an opportunity to share innovative research activities, teaching techniques, curriculum designs, syllabi, or training manuals. We request that presenters bring resources for attendees including handouts, brochures, or display copies of manuals or publications .
