Still Hungry and Homeless in College report shows 9 percent of students homeless, 36 percent dealing with food and housing insecurity
The largest national survey of its kind assessed the basic needs security of university students. It included feedback from 43,000 students at 66 institutions — both 4-year colleges and community colleges — in 20 states and the District of Columbia. The survey estimates that 36% of university students were food insecure in the 30 days preceding the survey. It found the same percentage of university students were housing insecure in the last year. Additionally, 9 percent of university students were homeless in the last year. Kresge supports the Wisconsin HOPE Lab, which led by researcher Dr. Sara Goldrick-Rab produced this report.
