Job Description
The Senior Director of the Annual Fund is a critical position for our organization. Working closely with our Chief Development Officer, you will set forth, manage and execute all aspects of the annual campaign. This will require incredible interpersonal skills as you will partner with volunteer, community and branch leadership to ensure we meet the fundraising goals for our organization. In addition, you will be responsible to motivate and inspire a team of development professionals and colleagues to engage in exciting association wide fundraising programs and events while creating a true culture of philanthropy. As the Y is currently in an unprecedented comprehensive campaign, you will be part of a history-making effort to raise needed dollars to position the Y as the lead provider healthy living, youth development and social responsibility in the communities that we serve.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
· 5 – 8 years of professional experience with a background in fundraising in the YMCA or another not-for-profit organization.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Experience in identifying, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers.
· Strong analytical skills, with the capacity to self-motivate and work independently.
· Must have excellent computer skills related to the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as online database platforms.
· Demonstrated experience in the supervision of others.
· Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and the ability to work well with community, staff, and volunteers.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive donor information.
· Attend Listen First training within six months of the date of hire.
Essential Functions
· Oversee and provide leadership for all annual campaign programs that support the Central and Lower Bucks Family YMCA’s which include individual giving, major gifts program, grant, and corporate sponsorship programs.
ANNUAL CAMPAIGN (60%):
o Implement the campaign fundraising plan and ensure it is integrated with “For a Better Us”, the county-wide comprehensive campaign.
o Responsible for the creation and execution of the annual Development budget.
o Ensure effective systems are in place for annual fund tracking, reporting, gift acknowledgment and recognition.
o Supervise the Annual Fund staff and provide development staff support to YMCA Branch Leadership.
o Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate and foundation giving strategy and plan that addresses the prioritized programmatic and operational fund needs of both the Central and Lower Bucks Family YMCA’s.
o Serve as the primary contact for matching gift programs and activity, all cultivation and solicitation activities relating to corporations and foundations as part of the YMCA’s overall development program;
o Collaborate with Marketing to create and develop an annual communication plan to ensure consistent philanthropic messages to external audiences; community influencers, donors, and community networks.
o Work in collaboration with the Membership and Marketing Departments to support member to donor conversion.
o Ensure that strategic and prioritized activities are in place to successfully achieve the annual campaign goal.
o Work in conjunction with Y-USA guidelines for implementation of the Y brand and the Nationwide Campaign.
o Prepare proposals and reports for grants as needed which support the campaign.
o Manage the submission of grants and collaborates with staff to ensure compliance of grant proposals and timely submission of grant reporting.
o Collaborate and communicate with other staff to ensure grant compliance.
o Coordinate production and implementation of direct mail, social media and other campaign appeals.
o Manage and maintain the confidentiality of the donor database.
STEWARDSHIP ACTIVITIES (20%):
o Ensure that all acknowledgments and stewardship activities required to support a healthy campaign are completed in a timely fashion.
o Ensure that campaign signage is updated and positive avenues of communication are maintained.
o Work with development team to ensure that all donor communications including the newsletter and annual report are completed in a timely and professional manner.
o Identify key community contacts for donor cultivation and stewardship.
VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE DEVELOPMENT (10%):
o Work with other members of the development team to build and lead strong community campaign volunteer teams across the association.
o Provide direction, adhere to a regular meeting schedule and implement results-driven strategies for successful annual campaign growth.
OTHER (10%)
o Actively participate in Walk the Talk and adhere to the schedule.
o Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions and maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
o Attend and participate in all committee, staff and organizational meetings as needed.
o Adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Code for Ethical Standards for responsible fundraising practices.
o Follow all Human Resources Policies and procedures of the organization.
o Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
