Education and Prevention Specialist, Office of Equality and Diversity, Drexel University

The Education and Prevention Specialist in the Office of Equality and Diversity is responsible for promoting and supporting a welcoming, respectful, and safe University environment and culture through educational programs for the University community, primarily for students, but also targeted for faculty and professional staff. The Specialist’s key issue area will be sexual and relationship violence prevention, including such related issues as bystander intervention, healthy relationships, substance abuse, and bullying/harassment. The Specialist will act as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator, and will report directly to the Associate Director for Education and Prevention within the Office of Equality and Diversity.

Qualifications:

– Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Education, Social Work, Gender Studies, Public Health, or another pertinent/related field, as well as at least two years of experience with sexual and relationship violence prevention and education. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

– Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

– Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

– Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a broad range of University partners.

– Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.

– Group Facilitation experience required, preferably with a youth population.

– Experience working with survivors of sexual and relationship violence or related experience required.

– Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

– Experience with public education/communications campaigns preferred.

Essential Functions:

– Create/plan, implement, promote, and evaluate evidence-/theory-based multi-disciplinary programming to facilitate dialogue about and address issues of sexual and relationship violence, bystander intervention, healthy relationships, substance abuse, and bullying/harassment.

– As a Deputy Title IX Coordinator, ensure that individuals affected by misconduct (both Complainants and Respondents) are provided with all relevant information, resources, and options regarding reporting and addressing sexual and gender-based harassment and misconduct.

– Design, implement, and manage a peer education program, including creating materials; designing an effective program; and recruiting, training, supervising, and developing volunteers.

– Improve educational offerings for incoming students, and the tracking of touchpoints/contact and skill/knowledge development over the course of the academic year.

– Assist in planning and implementing institution-wide events and/or educational programs (e.g. Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness Months, It’s On Us, etc).

– Develop and coordinate the distribution of educational materials to the University community regarding sexual and gender-based harassment and misconduct and the prevention of such behavior.

– Participate in strategic planning and goal/objective setting with the Associate Director of Education and Prevention and Associate Vice President for the Office of Equality and Diversity.

– Develop improved web resources, including social media outreach.

– Participate in University and community committees and task forces as needed.

– Assist in the preparation and maintenance of a programming budget.

– Other duties as may be assigned, including general administrative / support work as needed.
