AmeriCorps Member Service Description

Name of Organization Being Served: The Arc of Philadelphia
Dates of Service: Aug/ Sept, 2017-July, 2018

Member Type: Full Time | Achieving 1700 Hours

Service Time: 8am-4pm weekdays, some weekends with notice.

Member Service Objective: Member serves as a mentor for adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities in Philadelphia county toward inclusion in their community. The members are serving in partnership with The Arc of Philadelphia and agree to abide by the mission & vision of the agency.

Position Description (service may include supporting the following activities)

 Assist individuals with creating independent living goals toward community inclusion and track of their progress
 Assist and provide mentoring in Healthy Futures: meal planning, cooking, and grocery shopping, nutrition education, fitness opportunities, stress management tactics, and time management tips
 Assist and provide mentoring in Economic Opportunity: skills development, budgeting and saving, employment resources, vocational training
 Plan and coordinate activities that engage individuals in the local community – opportunities for community inclusion, participation and employment
 Develop and implement social activities and provide social mentoring (i.e., friendship mentoring, relationship mentoring, exploring interests)
 Prepare reports and compile data for all service activities to be submitted to On-Site Supervisor and AmeriCorps Program Director quarterly
 Attend mandatory AmeriCorps monthly meetings
 Attend mandatory National Days of Service-September 11th, MLK Day
 Abide by all service site policies and procedures as well as adhere to all AmeriCorps policies per the AmeriCorps handbook
 Provide customized services to persons with developmental disabilities at other locations/programs of The Arc of Philadelphia as needed

Position Requirements:

• At a minimum, members must be high school graduates, GED recipients, working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service. Members must agree to obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award.
• Member must be 18 & order to serve as an AmeriCorps member with The Arc of Philadelphia
• Member must pass a National Criminal History Background check- to include a drug screen, an FBI background check via fingerprints, a local background check, and their name run through the National Sex Offender database. This is contingent on any member beginning their service year.
• Member must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.

• Approx. $5,800 Educational Award contingent upon successful completion of service.
• Approx. $450 living allowance every two weeks for full time service hours
