STEM PD opportunity
Posted by Philadelphia Education Fund on June 12, 2017
The Philadelphia Education Fund (Ed Fund) is partnering with Drexel University, The Academy of Natural Sciences, The Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network, and Research for Action on “Philly Scientists.” Funded by the National Science Foundation, “Philly Scientists” targets middle school students and teachers in the Philadelphia Promise Zone, who participate in either in-school or out-of-school programs. Through hands-on experiences and interaction with STEM professionals, participants will learn about the biodiversity of the Promise Zone, about digital badging, and about careers in STEM.
The Ed Fund is designing the professional development for this project. This summer, we will test our workshops with 20 middle-school classroom teachers and informal educators.
Details:
* These teacher workshops will be held at the United Way, at 17th and the Parkway.
* They are intended to test our professional development curriculum.
* We will also gather feedback on the project in general.
To participate, you must:
* Be available from EITHER 10 AM-1 PM on July 14; or 3-6 PM on July 24.
* Work with middle-school school children in-school or out-of-school, during the summer or school year.
* Have an interest in, but not necessarily expertise in STEM education.
Participants will receive:
* A $75 stipend.
* Free STEM professional development.
* The student curriculum, when it is completed
* An opportunity to help shape Philadelphia’s STEM education.
Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete your application no later than Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
