Better STEM Outcomes: Developing an Accountability System for Broadening Participation
Posted by National Science Foundation on May 29, 2017
As PI for a grant from the National Science Foundation, Ira Harkavy, co-PI Louis Martin-Vega, and technical consultant Daryl Chubin produced a report entitled, “Better STEM Outcomes: Developing an Accountability System for Broadening Participation.” This report summarizes proceedings from a two-day workshop held in October 2016 that involved 50 educators, administrators, and evaluators from across the U.S. science and engineering enterprise. It discusses guiding principles and characteristics of an accountability system for broadening participation in STEM.

After receiving the report, the American Council on Education asked Ira and his co-authors to produce a blog post for ACE’s Higher Education Today. The blog post is being featured this week on the homepage of http://www.higheredtoday.org, which has nearly 40,000 visitors, as well as disseminated through ACE’s email newsletter.
