Breaking Down Walls: From Prison to Power

The Goldring Reentry Initiative (GRI) and Mural Arts Restorative Justice Guild are pleased to invite you to Breaking Down Walls: From Prison to Power, on Saturday, May 6th, 2017 from 1-5 pm. This free criminal justice focused event aims to foster dialogue and resource sharing by uniting community members, advocates, service providers, students, academics, and people directly impacted by the criminal justice system.

Breaking Down Walls: From Prison to Power will include a screening of the film Rikers, conversations with members of Just Leadership and the Philadelphia Reentry Think Tank, and a keynote address by Shaka Senghor, author of Writing My Wrongs: Life, Death, and Redemption in an American Prison, who was incarcerated for nearly 20 years.

Breaking Down Walls will also include a resource fair of over 30 local service providers and advocacy agencies. Artwork from people who are currently or previously incarcerated will be on display throughout the space.

Pennsylvania Licensed Social Workers will receive 4 free CEUs for attending the entire conference (pre-registration required). *

Doors and the resource fair open at 12:30.

The Goldring Reentry Initiative (GRI) is a program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice that works with people pre and post release from the Philadelphia Department of Prisons while training Master of Social Work students to work in the criminal justice field.
