Program for Music Students in Underrepresented Communities Taking Applications

The Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth (PMAY) seeks students in grades 4 – 11 to apply to its Artists’ Initiative. This innovative program, funded generously by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, provides a wide range of supports to talented young musicians of backgrounds underrepresented in symphony orchestras. Students should already have experience playing their instruments and play one of the following standard orchestral instruments: bass, bassoon, cello, clarinet, flute, harp, horn, oboe, percussion, trombone, trumpet, tuba, viola, and violin. (Voice, piano, guitar, and saxophone players will not be considered.) All selected PMAY Artists must commit to attending weekly lessons and/or classes in Philadelphia. While each PMAY Artist’s plan for study will be different, the estimated value of what each PMAY Artist will receive in financial support is in the thousands of dollars annually.
