The Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education seeks a dynamic, innovative and results-driven leader for the Principal position at Father Judge High School. The Principal is appointed by the Secretary for Catholic Education, Father Judge Board of Directors and the Superintendent for Secondary Schools. The Principal reports directly to the School President and the Superintendent for Secondary Schools. The Principal has both the authority and responsibility for the school’s Catholic identity, academic success, continuous improvement and a safe environment. Through our mission, we seek to develop Salesian Gentlemen in the image of the school patron St. Francis DeSales.
As the Principal of the school, the primary responsibilities include:
Catholic Identity: Promotes the essential characteristics and fundamental values of a Catholic school. Advances a spirit conducive to prayer, study, and an ongoing commitment to Christ-like behavior across the school community.
Leadership: Provides personal and visible leadership to all members of the learning community and seeks continuous school improvement in a student-centric environment. The Principal ensures diversity in educational opportunities, supports academic and non-academic programs, and provides a safe, rigorous, relevant, quality education for all students regardless of station in life. Employs sound educational practices based in research (quality instruction, project/work-based learning and leadership development).
Enrollment and Development Management: Collaborates with the President and the President’s staff in marketing and development initiatives to increase enrollment and retention.
Academic Affairs: Designs the academic program of the school that ensures program enhancement and diversity using the most current research and best practices available to education; provides for the teaching assignments of the teachers, requisitions instructional materials and equipment, and approves the master roster for the school.
Student Affairs: Oversees the successful implementation of all student activities, athletic programs, and career training sponsored by the high school.
Student Services: Provides for the student-centric climate; enforcement of the local school code of conduct, for the availability of guidance and counseling services, and for the delivery of other services that are offered to students.
Student Admissions: Works with the President to develop the criteria for admission to the school that are consistent with diocesan guidelines and makes certain that these criteria are consistently utilized in making decisions concerning admissions to the school.
Supervision: Supervises the teaching faculty and support staff; the Principal also provides for the revision of the instructional programs and for continuing staff development.
Faculty: Keeps informed and disseminates information about current research, trends and best practices in areas of responsibility.
Personnel: In accord with the protocols approved for religious and diocesan priests, as well as the Labor-Management Agreement, and in consultation with the President of the school, the Principal selects members of the teaching staff, the guidance staff, activity moderators, and support staff. Likewise, the Principal in consultation with the President initiates the termination process for the above-mentioned personnel following the archdiocesan guidelines and the procedures outlined in the Labor-Management Agreement.
Parents/Guardians: Serves as the link between school and home.
Career Technical Education (CTE): Ensures that all programs and teachers have an updated and relevant curriculum which prepares students for college and viable careers. Promotes collaboration and integration of academic and career technical skills among all teachers. Encourages all teachers (career technical and academic) to be a part of the educational team and be involved in all aspects of the school experience. Motivates all faculty and staff to collaborate on curriculum and instruction, work-based experiential learning, and leadership development initiatives. Develops entrepreneurism and career focus.
Instructional Assistance: Actively participate in all lab activities, including monitoring student computer use, maintaining a disciplined environment and assisting students with work. Ensure equitable access to technology resources for all members of the school community. Facilitate appropriate use of technology resources through education, management and monitoring. Collaborate with Technology Coordinator to implement technology enhanced curriculum based instruction. Establish a community of model digital citizens by facilitating safe, healthy, legal and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. Collaborate with Technology Coordinator to locate, review and disseminate appropriate web-based resources related to content-area instruction to support curriculum.
Miscellaneous: Attends training sessions, conferences and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues. Represent the system in a positive and professional manner. Develop annual goals and priorities. Assist in implementing the goals and strategic commitments. Utilize appropriate strategies and problem solving skills to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services and evaluation of services provided. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement. Assist in developing a budget and monitor its implementation as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced graduate degree in educational leadership.
- A valid Secondary Pennsylvania Principal’s Certificate is desired.
- Five years of successful teaching experience.
- Strong instructional leadership, collaborative, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work productively and positively with staff, parents and community.
- Strong motivational skills.
- Ability to promote an environment which fosters high expectations for students, staff and self.
- Ability to monitor student progress and promote student achievement for all students.
- Successful participation in staff and curriculum development activities.
- Previous administrative experience.
- Career Technical education administration experience (a plus).
