June 24–27, 2017
Boston University
Boston, Massachusetts
Apply through March 8, 2017
The 2017 Institute on High-Impact Practices and Student Success is designed to help campus- and system-based teams devise equitable, integrative, learning-centered pathways that deeply connect with the assets students bring to college. Teams of five members representing various campus sectors, including academic affairs and student affairs, are invited to apply for participation in this Institute. The curriculum will build upon the themes and topics drawn from accepted applications. Participating teams will work with Institute faculty on removing barriers to student success and on using high-impact practices (HIPs) in an intentional and evidence-based way to support higher levels of student learning. Possible themes and topics include
- selecting best practices for integrating HIPs into curricular and cocurricular programs;
- aligning courses and programs with guided learning pathways;
- ensuring equitable access for all students;
- designing and assessing the quality of HIPs at the course and institutional levels;
- building campus collaborations and creating professional development opportunities to achieve diversity and equity goals; and
- providing campus models for the civil exchange of ideas and dialogue across ideological differences.
Once accepted, teams use their time together to develop action plans that utilize evidence-based strategies to advance institutional goals. The Institute provides
- daily team time to work on action plans;
- individual team consultations with Institute faculty;
- plenary sessions, facilitated discussions, and interactions with other campus teams;
- reflection and skill-building workshops; and
- rehearsals of action plan presentations to key campus stakeholders.
