National Conference on University-Assisted Community Schools as an Effective Strategy for Education Reform, K-16+

This conference will explore University-Assisted Community Schools (UACS) as an effective strategy for education reform nationally.

Since assuming her post last summer, Randi Weingarten has championed the importance of community schools in education reform.  She will share her thoughts on engaging higher education more fully in this work.  Nancy Cantor is a preeminent leader in higher ed civic engagement.  Under her leadership, “Scholarship in Action” at Syracuse is based on “the interactive and collaborative nature of many of our programs, where faculty and students learn, discover, and create through deep engagement and exchanges with practitioners and communities throughout the world.”

Sessions will include: UACS models nationally, engaging bright undergraduates in teaching, role of teachers’ unions in UACS, and policy/funding opportunities at the federal level.
