PAL CAMP INVENTION
Job Opportunity: Instructor
August 22nd – 26th
Cozen PAL Center – 732 N. 17th St.

Compensation: $500 for new; $525 for returning staff

Requirements
 Must be or have been a licensed teacher; or have a degree in field of science and experience working with youth in an educational setting
 Is capable of student management in an unstructured classroom environment
 Is flexible, creative, and enthusiastic
 Can lead students through the “discovery learning” process as detailed in training
 Can select age-appropriate activities for students at various grade levels
 Can facilitate teamwork and group problem-solving among the students
 Will read the background information for the assigned curriculum

Responsibilities
 Read curriculum and become familiar with activities before camp setup day
 Personalize daily lesson plans to fit your needs
 Attend staff orientation on camp setup day (Friday, August 19th)
 Report to camp at least 30 mins. early every day
 Facilitate the curriculum module, using “discovery learning” method
 Maintain a sense of fun and discipline
 Manage counselors as assistants in your classroom
 Document any behavior problems and/or injuries
 Clean classroom and prepare curriculum & materials for return as directed at the end of camp

Camp Details
 Week-long science and hands-on education camp
 August 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th (Candidates must be available for the entire duration of camp)
 Camp will be held at Cozen PAL Center, 732 N. 17th St., Philadelphia, PA 19130
 Instructors are expected to arrive each morning at 8:30am; each day will conclude at 4:00pm

Notes: The Camp Invention curriculum stresses immersion and hands-on, discovery learning.
The Teacher Training materials address how to implement these techniques.

Camp Invention provides the entire curriculum for each module, including:
 Background information for each concept
 Suggestions for room decoration
 An overview of each module, including key teaching points
 Daily lesson plans
 Step-by-step directions for primary and intermediate activities
 Materials lists
 Suggestions and resources for extension activities
 Documentation of national education standards met by curriculum
 Complete materials lists

Camp Invention also provides all the materials necessary to teach each unit. Exceptions are costume items such as coats or hats that may be appropriate for certain modules. Teaching assignments vary by camp size. Students are roughly grouped by age, and class size will range from 10-22 students with 1 or 2 classroom assistants.
