SAT Instructor, Philadelphia Futures

Philadelphia Futures, a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the tools, resources, and opportunities necessary for admission to and success in college, is seeking a SAT instructor. Philadelphia Futures’ direct service programs, Sponsor-A-Scholar (SAS) and College Connection, provide a range of services and resources including academic enrichment, college guidance and financial incentives to Philadelphia high school students.
The SAT Instructor prepares students for the SAT exam by providing instruction in a variety of flexible formats including weekly after-school/Saturday classes, small group sessions and one-to-one tutoring.
Key responsibilities include: (1) teaching small (approximately 15 students per section) SAT preparation classes to high school junior and seniors; (2) reporting on student attendance, assignment completion, and progress; (3) managing and implementing a summer SAT tutoring program, (4) administering and scoring benchmark exams; (5) meeting individually with students to discuss their scores and help them understand their strengths and areas for improvement; and (6) remaining current on College Board test format, standards and expectations.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred. Prior experience in teaching and/or tutoring SAT preparation required; minimum three-five years relevant teaching experience; demonstrated commitment to the education of Philadelphia public high school students and a clear understanding of related challenges; a teaching style that is structured, positive, and engaging; strong communication and organizational skills; proficiency in Excel.
Supervision: This position reports to the Director of Academics and Programming
Hours: This is part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week from January – May and July – October. Hours are flexible subject to the students’ schedules. Late afternoon and Saturday hours will be necessary during the school year. Opportunities for continuing employment during the balance of the year will be discussed.
Compensation: Compensation will be based on experience and number of hours worked.
