WHO WE ARE
Temple Teacher Residency (TTR) is an accelerated, one-year initial teacher certification program for individuals with strong STEM backgrounds who are committed to teaching middle grades (4-8) science and/or mathematics in Philadelphia’s high-need schools. During their TTR residency year, residents take masters-level coursework while simultaneously working alongside an experienced middle grade science/mathematics mentor teacher to apply what they’ve learned immediately and gain teaching experience from the first day of school.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Temple Teacher Residency (TTR) seeks a Program Coordinator who is a dynamic, experienced educator with the passion, commitment, and skills to recruit and support novice science and mathematics teachers in an innovative urban teacher residency program. TTR wants a highly motivated individual to join their collaborative leadership team comprised of highly-committed university and school partners. The Program Coordinator will be strategic and innovative in leading ongoing recruitment of resident teachers into TTR, selecting excellent mentor teachers in supportive school environments to ensure residents’ professional growth, overseeing multiple clinical aspects of the residency year, and using data continually to inform program improvements.
The TTR Program Coordinator (a grant-funded position) oversees program components within a Graduate Middle Grades Certification option – the Temple Teacher Residency in the College of Education related to resident recruitment, hiring, coordination and support of mentor teachers, clinical experiences, and program improvement. The Program Coordinator takes primary responsibility for recruitment and selection of a diverse and high-quality group of residents and school-based mentors via widespread and high-touch marketing, coordinating application and selection processes for residents and mentors, ensuring effective school-based support for resident learning, and providing job search guidance for residents. This individual should communicate with and collaborate with relevant TTR faculty/staff proactively to ensure the program has the appropriate information for ongoing growth and refinement.
Required Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Education or related field and at least two or more years of directly related professional experience working in schools or in the field of education. Must include teaching experience and/or teacher leadership experience and expertise in K-12 education. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
*Experience in an urban public school, with a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges within that dynamic environment
*Experience teaching in STEM fields
*Experience and/or knowledge of recruitment and marketing
Required Skills and Abilities
*Strong technology/computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, database maintenance and social media
*Demonstrated success supervising and mentoring adults
*Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically around race, class, and gender, as well as an ability to easily engage in and facilitate discussions about diversity without unduly focusing on them
*Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to move within diverse communities and environments with ease and confidence
*Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility to take on new responsibilities as they arise, and ability to multi-task
*Ability to work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines both independently and cooperatively
*Ability to demonstrate passion and commitment to promoting education reform agenda
*Ability to develop innovative teacher preparation programs
*Excellent skills in analyzing and solving problems
*Ability to collaborate with multiple partners and navigate varying interests
*Strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, administrators and external stakeholders.
*Ability to travel to schools in Philadelphia for school site visits; some locations may not be accessible by public transportation.
