Career Exposure Program Coordinator, Urban Affairs Coalition

POSITION SUMMARY: This is a seasonal position supporting the Urban Affairs Coalition’s Career Exposure program, which provides rising 8th graders with six weeks of career exploration activities and opportunities to build 21st century work-readiness skills. The Program Coordinator will set up the program for success, including recruiting youth participants, establishing partnerships with other organizations, and design and arrange the program learning plan and activities This is a seasonal position beginning in early April and ending late June. The Program Coordinator may apply to transition to a Program Instructor role for July and August.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify and conduct outreach to schools and/or organizations to recruit youth for the program (youth should be entering 8th grade in the fall);
Complete youth enrollment and eligibility paperwork;
Identify and conduct outreach to companies, universities, and other potential partners to develop opportunities for participants to learn about career and post-secondary opportunities;
Design and develop the learning plan and contextual learning project;
Develop the program timeline and make arrangements for field trips and other program activities;
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Outgoing personality with good verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to effectively network and communicate with others, including 12-14 year olds and their families and professionals from different backgrounds;
Knowledge of project-based learning and/or program design for youth career exploration preferred;
Familiarity with a variety of professions, its responsibilities and the required qualifications preferred;
Must be able to multi-task while meeting programmatic benchmarks and deadlines;
Must be a self-starter with good time management skills;
Strong organization skills and detailed-oriented.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
A High school diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred;
A minimum of 2 years previous work experience preferred;
Experience designing youth programs preferred;
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
