Achieving High-Powered Community Partnerships:
A workshop for community relations professionals, non-profits managers, and public administrators.
September 18th & 19th, 2008
For many community relations managers, community engagement can be challenging, particularly when working with resident-led organizations and neighborhood-based groups. The Achieving High-Powered Community Partnerships workshop will provide participants with insight and tools that enable them to achieve more constructive and mutually beneficial involvement with grassroots leaders.
Topics covered by the workshop will include:
Principles for effective institutional-community collaboration
Navigating community power dynamics
Identifying appropriate community partners
Exiting partnerships amicably
Establishing organizational structures that foster engagement
Balancing self-preservations with community need
Assessing the credibility of grassroots partners
Determining where to make community investments
Learning to function at the “community’s table”
Getting credit for community engagement
Measuring return on investment for community engagement
Among those who should attend are:
Corporate community relations administrators
Staffs of local governmental entities
Directors and managers of large non-profits
Media relations and public affairs professionals
The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Byron P. White, senior associate for the Community Building Institute and Associate Vice President for Community Engagement at Xavier University.
