Launching a Planned Giving Program
Securing the Donor and Your Organization’s Legacies
Nobody likes to talk about death, making planned giving one of the oft-neglected tools of a development office. The pressure to always show results also makes some nonprofits hesitant about putting resources into efforts that don’t immediately produce results. But as the country ages, there’s no better time to start having discussions about estate gifts. The economy further reinforces this message, demonstrating the importance of deferred gifts as a potential hedge against a volatile economy.
While all giving is about cultivation, that’s especially true when thinking about legacy gifts. And if you’re not marketing the option of planned giving, you’re likely leaving significant money on the table, especially since planned gifts can be 200 times greater than a donor’s largest annual gift.
This class demystifies planned giving techniques and vehicles, making them easier to understand. With that knowledge, you can thoughtfully decide what will work for your organization, with an experienced development leader’s guidance on how to design, implement and refine a planned giving program that’s the right fit.
