Reports To: Board
Classification: Exempt
Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 per annum + benefits
Mission:
For over 25 years BWSF has been a national organization that provides youth programming to children and facilitates the development of resources for and about women of color in sports.
The Black Women in Sport Foundation was founded in 1992 by Tina Sloan Green, Alpha Alexander, Nikki Franke, and Linda Greene as a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the involvement of Black women and girls in all aspects of sport, including athletics, coaching and administration. The Foundation is resolute in facilitating the involvement of women of color in every aspect of sport in the United States and around the world, through the “hands-on” development and management of grass roots level outreach programs.
Position Summary:
The Executive Director is responsible for the daily administration and management of The Black Women in Sport Foundation, including service programs, fundraising, and business operations. Areas of responsibility include planning, evaluation, and implementation of policy; personnel and fiscal management; and public relations. This is a full-time position, hired by and directly accountable to the board through its elected board chair.
Responsibilities
1. Management and Administration
a. Develop and facilitate an active organizational and staff planning process.
b. Assist with the development and implementation of organizational goals and objectives consistent with the mission and vision of BWSF.
c. Develop and administer operational policies.
d. Oversee all programs, services, and activities to ensure that program objectives are met.
e. Oversee business development and fundraising.
f. Ensure compliance with funding sources and regulatory requirements.
g. Provide information for evaluation of the organization’s activities.
h. Manage/oversee office personnel including office manager, independent contractors, and graduate assistants in implementing and completing administrative tasks.
2. Fiscal
a. Develop, recommend, and monitor annual and other budgets.
b. Coordinate with the Board Audit Committee to ensure effective audit trails.
c. Approve expenditures in accordance with BWSF policies and procedures.
d. Provide for proper fiscal record keeping and reporting.
e. Submit monthly financial statements to the board.
f. Prepare and submit grant applications and funding proposals as appropriate.
3. Personnel
a. Collaborate with and support Board Committees
b. Administer board-approved personnel policies.
c. Ensure proper (legal) hiring and termination procedures.
d. Oversee any and all disciplinary actions.
e. Provide for adequate supervision and evaluation of all staff and volunteers.
4. Board Relations
a. Assist the board chair in planning the agenda and materials for board meetings.
b. Initiate and assist in developing policy recommendations and in setting priorities.
c. Facilitate the orientation of new board members.
d. Work with the board to raise funds from the community.
5. Public Relations
a. Serve as chief spokesperson for the organization.
b. Ensure appropriate messaging and representation of BWSF by all employees.
c. Coordinate representation of BWSF to legislative bodies and other groups.
6. Fundraising
a. Developing and implementing an integrated, comprehensive fundraising program designed to achieve BWSF’s financial and fundraising goals.
b. Fostering and maintaining close relationships with major donors and local foundations in order to assist BWSF in meeting its fundraising goals.
c. Identifying prospects for annual and major gifts, and cultivating meaningful relationships with them in order to secure significant contributions.

Technical Expertise should include the following:
• Annual giving program implementation, including new donor development and renewals.
• Major gift programs and capital campaigns, including prospect research, cultivation, personal solicitation, and acknowledgment.
• Private foundation research, cultivation, program design, and grant writing.
• Donor and community communications, including direct mail, newsletter, website, and social media
• Budgeting, business plan development, report analysis, and performance evaluation.
Other:
• Upholds values consistent with the mission of the BWSF
• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Experience in athletics (e.g., player, coach, administrator, etc.)
• Available to attend BWSF programming, board meetings (if requested) and conferences
