Greening the Post-Industrial City

Posted by on March 30, 2009

Drexel Engineering Cities Initiative is hosting a conference entitled “Greening the Post-Industrial City: Innovative Reuse of Philadelphia’s Idle Lands” on April 23rd and 24th, and I was hoping that you could make an announcement about it through your list serves.

The first day of the event will focus on acquiring and redeveloping the many idle lands and brownfields throughout the city; the second will be used to discuss a number of innovative reuse ideas, including: green buildings, green infrastructure, transit-oriented development, industrial redevelopment, urban agriculture and community gardening, and much more.

Confirmed panelists include representatives from a number of city, state and federal agencies; academia; and organizations such as the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, LISC, Delaware Valley Green Building Council, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Association, PennFuture and others.  Dr. Mark Alan Hughes will make a presentation on April 23rd about the city’s sustainability framework.

The conference will be held at the Academy of Natural Sciences, with a reception at the Navy Yard.

Attached is a conference announcement and preliminary agenda.  Registration and additional information are available on our website at: http://www.drexel.edu/cities/
