Student Centered Policy Solutions for College Completion

NCAN Releases New Policy Report
NCAN and partner organizations, NASFAA, Ed Trust, and the Urban Institute, joined together to answer a simple question: What are policy wins that we can be implemented today to help low-income and first-generation students and students of color to access and complete higher education. The result is the report Encourage, Empower, Educate: Student Centered Policy Solutions for College Completion. The report recommends a program about early awareness of financial aid for middle-school students to let them know that college is possible and help them to make choices to stay on the college-bound path. It recommends using prior-prior year income data for the FAFSA (coming soon next year) to as the foundation for further FAFSA simplification. And it recommends improving access to Pell Grant recipient graduation rate information to help students choose a college where they are more likely to succeed and to give policymakers better information when examining the Pell Grant program.
