For teachers: Biology professional development
Posted by University of Pennsylvania on August 10, 2015
We hope you will save the dates for our two free PD sessions at the University of Pennsylvania Biology Department this coming fall.
On Saturday, September 19, 9-12 AM, our PD will include:
· How do biological organisms use energy? (an analysis and discussion activity for teaching Keystone A.3.2.2, available at http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/bioactivities/energy)
· Alcoholic Fermentation in Yeast – A Bioengineering Design Challenge (a hands-on activity related to Keystone A.3.2.1, available at http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/sci_edu/waldron/#fermentation)
· Plant Growth Puzzle (an analysis and discussion activity related to Keystone A.3.2.1 , available at http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/bioactivities/plantgrowth)
On Saturday, October 24, 9-12 AM, our PD will include:
· Homeostasis and Negative Feedback – Concepts and Breathing Experiments (an analysis and discussion activity and two hands-on activities for teaching Keystone A.4.2, available at http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/sci_edu/waldron/#breath)
· Dr. Wei Guo, Professor of Biology, University of Pennsylvania, Transport inside Eukaryotic Cells – Mechanisms and Functions (a speaker on Keystone A.4.1.3)
We will provide the supplies for the hands-on activities. Near the beginning of September, we will send a message with more specific information and the link to the form to sign up for the September PD.
Meanwhile, we hope you will share this information with other teachers who may be interested. Please encourage interested teachers to sign up for our PD listserv so they will receive subsequent announcements. To sign up for the listserv, go to https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/biology-pd; please give a reason for signing up (so we will know you are a real person and not an automated program).
