New Report: Sustaining the Career Advancement Academies
Posted by Equal Measure on May 11, 2015
Career Advancement Academies (CAAs) target under-prepared California young adults (ages 18-30), whose low basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics shut them out of high-wage jobs, and help them with the foundational skills to pursue postsecondary education and careers. CAAs operate in 15 colleges across the state.
Six years into the initiative, CAA stakeholders are looking beyond 2015, when their grants end, and are figuring out how to sustain their programs – or at least their core elements.
In this Report, Equal Measure examines the factors influencing how and to what extent six colleges are working to sustain their CAA programs. We describe factors influencing sustainability, and offer lessons for the field. We also provide case studies of the six featured CAA colleges. Equal Measure serves as the evaluator of this initiative.
