POVERTY IS THE ABSENCE OF POETRY…
On Thursday, April 30th, U School students will celebrate, Poem in Your Pocket day. The U School is a new innovative Philadelphia Public School located in North Philadelphia whose core operating principles are #LoveDreamDo.
To culminate National Poetry Month, students will select and read poems from established poets and their own published poems; carry and share poems from their pockets with others near or on Temple’s campus.
Poem in Your Pocket Day was originally initiated in 2002 by the Office of the Mayor, in partnership with the New York City Departments of Cultural Affairs and Education, as part of the city’s National Poetry Month celebration. In 2008, the Academy of American Poets took the initiative national, encouraging individuals around the country to join in and channel their inner bard.
