Listening for a Change: Hands-on Training Session
*** This event has been approved for 5 Annual Training Hours by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD).**** PCCD is not affiliated with this training.
This intensive 5-hour, hands-on workshop will be facilitated by an experienced professional with extensive background in violence prevention, intergroup relations, and advocacy. Kanwarpal Dhaliwal holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and serves as Community Health Director at RYSE Center for youth in Richmond, CA. She is also an instructor at San Francisco State University.
The session is FREE but we request that you bring $10 cash to cover lunch costs.
Workshop elements will include:
1. Defining trauma and healing
Offering a framework for trauma and healing that acknowledges and integrates social conditions of oppression and entitlement, and impacts all levels – personal, interpersonal, community, systems.
2. Understanding trauma and healing for young people in Richmond, CA
Share findings from “Listing for a Change” campaign
Implications and opportunities for local work in Pennsylvania
3. Trauma-informed, healing-centered approaches and practices in our work
Sharing RYSE’s model and framework for healing
4. Non-violent communication and restorative justice tools and practices that can be used in our collective work
Facilitators will share tools RYSE uses and has created.
Participants will share their own tools.
Group will workshop tools to see where and how to apply, adapt, etc.
