New Web Resource Tracks Gaps in Youth Opportunity across States
While most experts agree that income inequality has reached levels not seen since the 1920s, many disagree about what that means for America. In his new book, Our Kids, Robert Putnam argues that social class disparities in opportunities available to children have grown along with income inequality. The Carsey School of Public Policy’s new Gaps in Youth Opportunity by State project examines the data further by offering a set of graphs that address the extent to which such opportunity gaps exist in each state. It looks across several indicators, including income inequality and poverty, family structure, and educational access and achievement.
