Consider literacy levels in outreach materials

Posted by on March 30, 2015

A helpful tip from the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger:

In Philadelphia, over half of the adult population—an estimated 550,000 individuals—are considered low literate. When developing flyers and brochures at your organization, checking the reading level of your documents may be useful. Once Microsoft Word finishes checking the spelling and grammar, you can choose to display information about the reading level of the document, including readability scores according to the Flesch Reading Ease and the Flesch Kincaid Grade Level Tests.
