The Senior Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising nutrition educators providing programming for one to multiple nutrition education initiatives within school and community settings. Program goals are to increase participants’ knowledge of nutrition, physical activity, and help to develop environmental and policy level approaches to nutrition programming according to the US Dietary Guidelines and USDA Food Guidance System. Programs will emphasis nutrition, wellness, chronic disease management, food safety, food systems and/or gardening.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and implements, with oversight from the Program Manager, obligations of contractual and grant-funded projects to ensure timely program deliverables are met.
- Monitors, coordinates, and oversees nutrition education schedules regarding the implementation of daily programmatic activities.
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with program partners and project staff to ensure effective communication and efficient program implementation.
- Works with Program Manager to coordinate, chair/co-chair and document regularly scheduled meetings with contracting or funding organizations, to provide on-going quality assurance, information sharing and problem solving.
- Monitors nutrition education program quality by conducting and documenting site visits and sharing results with Program Manager.
- Integrates new ideas and concepts with oversight from management staff, in order to improve project delivery, content, and/or evaluation for target audiences.
- Convenes and leads regularly scheduled staff meetings for optimal team building and performance, program quality, and communication.
- Develops/updates training materials for program and assists manager in training, coaching, and monitoring program staff in implementation of program interventions, activities, and procedures.
- Stays abreast of current resources, research and possible funding opportunities in the area of nutrition and wellness.
- Monitors and oversees orders, inventory, and organization of program supplies, resources and educational materials that are appropriate for target audience. Communicate regularly with management to assure purchases are within budget constraints.
- Oversees staff program and travel expenses to ensure expenditures are in compliance with budget and budget guidance.
- Reports monthly expenditures to management staff.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of program and evaluation documentation with the support of management staff.
- Conducts nutrition education sessions and other relevant duties when needed or requested.
Supervision/Administrative Activities
- Supervises nutrition educators and related staff; approves timekeeping including vacation, personal, and sick time.
- Supports staff in defining priorities, deadlines, and resolving any program challenges.
- Assists with program hiring and oversees training and orientation of new program staff.
- Provides mentoring to staff to foster professional and personal growth.
- Writes and conducts annual staff performance management reviews in a timely manner.
- Enforces agency policies and procedures.
- Communicates formally with Program Manager and program staff.
- Maintains an ongoing record of meetings, email and phone communication with existing and prospective partners to document program activities and progress.
- Ensures reports or documentation is received from program staff in a timely fashion.
- Assist with drafting of quarterly and/or annual reports of project activities, attendance and evaluation/outcomes and submits to supervisor for final review and submission.
- Attends regular grantee/partnership, statewide and national meetings as needed.
- Reviews and ensures all lesson plans, handouts, and materials written by program staff are culturally appropriate for diverse audiences.
- Assists with special projects as assigned by management team.
Position Type: Nonexempt Annual Salary
Location: Base office 1500 Market Street. Local and occasional regional travel required; occasional weekend/evening work
Professional Experiences and Requirements:
Essential
- Three years’ experience managing and/or coordinating community-based programs/activities with multiple stakeholders.
At least one year of experience formally or informally supervising program staff. - Three years’ experience and strong working knowledge of programs that focus on nutrition, health promotion, and/or public health programming.
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to make presentations to and engage diverse groups of people.
- Must have strong ability to prioritize assignments and analyze information.
- Must have strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated, hard-working, and dependable.
- Must be proficient in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Must have ability/desire to learn new software as needed.
- Familiar with and comfortable working in low-income settings and with diverse groups of people.
Preferred
- Knowledgeable of public health theories, principles and practices.
- Experience in data collection/entry and evaluation monitoring.
- Experience with community gardening/farming, menu planning, recipe writing, and/or food safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in nutrition, dietetics, public health, food planning, or culinary arts.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM flexibility needed for some evenings and weekends
Salary: Commensurate with education and work experience, full benefit package
