The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is an evidence-based intervention specifically developed for children with autism aged between 12 – 60 months. ESDM is a play-based intervention that fuses behavioral & developmental principles into an integrated approach. ESDM can be implemented in different natural settings such as the home or the daycare/preschool by trained therapists as well as parents within play and daily routines and daily routines. ESDM aims to reduce the symptoms of autism and target all developmental areas.This ESDM workshop is designed for parents and professionals working with or who have an interest in working with children with ASD.
Introductory Workshop
Learn about the theoretical and empirical framework, curriculum and teaching principles of the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM)—a developmental, behavioral and relationship-based intervention program for infants and toddlers with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ages 12- 60 months.
Topics include:
Ø Administering and completing a developmental assessment of children’s skill levels
Ø Developing individualized, developmentally appropriate teaching objectives
Ø Implementing the ESDM teaching practices and fidelity system to evaluate technique use
Ø Maintaining data management and addressing poor or limited child progress, when needed
Prerequisite: You must work regularly with 12-60 month-old children with ASD; purchase, read and bring a copy of the manual Early Start Denver Model for Young Children with Autism: Promoting Language, Learning, and Engagement to the Workshop
Facilitator
Donna Morrison, M.S., O.T.R, BCBA
Donna is an energetic and knowledgeable presenter who has over 20 years of experience providing educational,developmental and behavioral interventions to early intervention programs, preschool settings and districts across Long Island. She is the full-time supervisor of Just Kids Autism Program and has devoted her professional career to working with children with autism and their families. Donna is an experienced clinician who looks forward to sharing her expertise during this ESDM workshop.
