Physicians for Social Responsibility 35th Anniversary
Posted by Physicians for Social Responsibility on December 08, 2014
Celebrate the holidays and 35 years of PSR accomplishments at The Oaks Cloister! Please join Dr. Walter Tsou, PSR Philadelphia President, and the PSR Board in our anniversary celebration at the magnificent Oaks Cloister in the Wissahickon Woods (just off Lincoln Drive).
For 35 years, PSR has been making a difference in our community! From our work initially addressing nuclear weapons, to our efforts addressing youth and gun violence, to our actions focused on addressing environmental threats to health, our accomplishments are many and on December 14th we are looking forward to celebrating them with….YOU!
Overlooking Fairmount Park, this historic Tudor estate was designed in 1900 by Joseph Miller Huston, the architect of the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Mercer tiles, murals by Violet Oakley, original leaded stainedglass, a plaster and gold leaf ceiling, imported European fireplaces, extraordinary leather craftsmanship, and an exquisite woodcarving by sculptor Alexander Stirling Calder are just a few of the architectural and artistic treasures guests will enjoy in this elegant 20-room turn-of-the-century mansion. The Oaks Cloister is listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places and a state historic marker at Huston’s home honors him as one Pennsylvania’s significant architects. This historic mansion is a wonder to behold and specially decorated for holidays!
